Jay Tablante is at it again with his latest project featuring model/ DJ Jinri Park; this time it’s Jinri cosplaying as femme fatale Fujiko Mine from the anime series Lupin III.

We asked Jay why he decided to go for a Fujiko-related cosplay shoot and here’s what the main man had to say.

“I felt doing some classic anime of the 70s and 80s for a change. Though I’d soon be back doing some comic book cosplays again.”

And what should we expect from the photographer/geek for his next project? Think  X-Men.

Every photographer, like every artist, exhibits a unique personality in his work. Throughout his career, photographer Jay Tablante has captured a wide array of images that testify to his being a geek, and his love of the icons that define the growing pop-culture scenes.

Jay launched his first coffee table book, Geekology 101, on October 20, 2012 at the National Book Store, Greenhills Arcade, Greenhills Shopping Center. Geekology 101 is a celebration of geeky imagination and imagery from his work over the last five years. The book highlights his collaborations with fellow professionals in the ad industry who express their geeky sides using their distinct talents and skills.

Geekology 101 showcases some of the most beautiful and noteworthy people in the entertainment and media industry, such as celebrities and artists from the GMA Artist Center, in a variety of iconic pop-culture scenes. Jay’s subjects in this book include Rhian Ramos, Bianca King, Aljur Albrenica, Kris Bernal, Barbie Forteza, and Solenn Heusaff, among others. Alodia Gosiengfiao, one of the most popular cosplay icons in Asia, graces the cover.

Jay believes that being a geek should be celebrated, and with Geekology 101, he shares that passion with the world. In tune with similar efforts by other generous individuals and communities in the Philippines, some proceeds of the book will be donated to Canon Marketing Philippines, Inc.’s “Print for Smiles” campaign. The said program raises funds for Operation Smile, a medical campaign that provides free reconstructive cleft lip and palate surgeries to young people in need. Jay Tablante‘s work on cosplay photography has been superb! With cosplay shoots together with Filipino celebrities like Rhian Ramos, Bianca King, Solenn Heussaff, Jinri Park and known international top cosplayers like Yaya Han, Alodia Gosienfiao and Marie-Claude Bourbonnais. Jay’s portfolio on cosplay photography is truly one of the best there is.

Two saturdays ago, we finally get the chance to have a peek and learn how Jay does this shoots as he launched his first Cosplay Photography book — Geekology. During the event Jay was joined by Alodia and Jinri. After our Geekology coverage, we managed to get our hands on 5 copies of the book and got them all signed by Jay, Alodia and Jinri! (Thanks to our partners at National Book Store!)

But first, just in case you didn’t know, all of Jay’s earnings and the royalties that he get out of his cosplay related works including Geekology – everything is given to charity.

And in an effort to help out Jay, we’ve decided to put all 5 signed copies in the GEEK GIVEAWAY! But this won’t be as easy and would require a bit more from the participants especially since this is in line with the Jay’s charity cause. Here are the mechanics:

1.  You must have an existing copy of Geekology already OR you have a receipt that contains a purchase of the book.

Cosplay Mania 2012 – the biggest cosplay event in the country was held last week! And this year in Cosmania, the Flipgeeks boys had their FIRST booth EVER!!! Komiks artists who won the Komiks at Cosmania Contest,  also joined us in our booth, and we instantly became friends with them!

We had lots of fun in our booth, the Komiks artist drew sketches which called our curious cosplayers and event-goers, while the Flipgeeks boys got busy in giving out flyers and … posing on camera! We raffled out some comics, and even candies to the ones who bought komiks at the booth. It was fun too because Cosmania had event-goers that range from gamers, cosplayers and even comic book readers. Oh we also had lots of fun with our HUMONGOUS SIGN-BOARD, okay, let’s call it our Flipgeeks Fansign! HAHA! And as you can see in the image below Naked Snake (Big Boss) ain’t too much happy with Earl about it –

Cosmania 12 certainly highlights the crowd that it draws, but another thing that maybe most people might not notice immediately is that Cosmania had lots of booths in the 2nd hall. There were stores that were selling model kits, and other anime/manga collectibles stuff, gaming booths like PinoyPS’, stores that offer cosplay products like lenses, wigs.  —–  The 33rd MANILA INTERNATIONAL BOOK FAIR (MIBF) begins next week on September 12 and will run to Sept 16 and will be held at Halls 1-4 SMX Convention Center – Mall of Asia.

During MIBF, it’s already a given that a lot of booths from different stores, publishers, etc will be present there, but what makes it more special is that it has a lot of activities lined up that includes awarding and ceremonies, seminars/talks from speakers like Ambeth Ocampo and even government officials like Hon. Lucy Torres-Gomez and Hon. Teddy A. Casiño. You can check the full schedule of seminars and other activities at their official facebook page here.

Well let’s move on to the good stuff, the more geeky stuff ! Along side MIFB, we have a cosplay/anime event called THE BEST OF ANIME (BOA) which will be held on Sept 15-16 at the Hall 5 of SMX. A good thing about BOA is that, there’s more to it than the usual stuff we’ll see in the MIFB venue -there are stores (booths), cosplay competitions, fashion shows, battle of the bands, video showing, other contests and more!

To top it all off, it would definitely be a great day to drop by MIFB on Sunday (Sept 16). Why? BOA offers cosplay competitions, fashion show and battle of the bands, but at the National Book Store booth you must drop by! If you’re a fan of comicbooks, especially pinoy komiks then you’ll be happy to know that the following books together with their respective creators will be there to do signings — generally the top pinoy komiks on shelves right now, Trese (by Budjette Tan and Kajo Baldisimo) and Skyworld (by Mervin Ignacio and Ian Sta. Maria), the eisner-nominated Elmer (by Gerry Alanguilan) and the well beloved komiks strip Pugad Baboy (by Pol Medina Jr.).  Lastly, National Book Store will be having their own FREE COMIC BOOK DAY on that day! We’re not sure if they’ll be giving away the actual FCBD Comics that were released last May, or they’ll be giving away a different set of books, but as long as it’s free we’re sure everyone will be happy

Oh, and Jinri Park will be there to sign her gravure book “The Jinri Experience” (by Jinri Park and Jay Tablante).
