Ivar Timewalker #1
The third immortal Anni-Padda brother finally shines into the limelight as he gets his own title from Valiant. Fred Van Lente and Clayton Henry, the same creative team of Archer & Armstrong, bring you – Ivar, Timewalker #1 - Ivar and his time traveling adventures. With a creative team like that, you can count on the comic to be another Valiant hit.

Fred Van Lente is no stranger to the Anni-Padda brothers. He has written them extensively in other Valiant comic books, so you can tell that he’s very comfortable in the way he handles Ivar. Van Lente leaves some subtle bits and pieces into the true goal of Ivar, whether he’s in it for himself or truly genuine in his intentions, especially after the revelation in the end. And of course, as a Fred Van Lente story you can expect some funny bits here and there.

Time travel can be a tricky and confusing subject to delve into. However, Van Lente creates a strong and fun premise from it. Also, it is apparent that he has tackled all the issues and questions raised regarding time travel through the another character Dr. Neela Sethi, the physicist whom Ivar rescues from other time traveling beings called Prometheans. While Dr. Sethi falls into another cliched character, she brings an interesting dynamic to Ivar.

Fans of Archer & Armstrong will feel at home in this comic as Clayton Henry lends his wonderful art that made the series a success. His facial expressions are one of his stronger suits, giving each character emotions that jumps out of the pages. Plus, his action scenes flow through each panel flawlessly.

Ivar, Timewalker #1 is a strong debut issue from the successful creative team of Fred Van Lente and Clayton Henry. It delivers a right balance of a good story, fun characters, and the right amount of humor. There’s no better team to be attached to the title than these guys.
