Long Walk To Valhalla by Adam Smith and Matthew Fox incorporates mythology in a rather touching story that’s sure to leave a mark.
The story’s core is about struggles in life with family. It has sadness, family issues, a quiet setting and, to mix things up, a sliver of Norse mythology. What Adam Smith does greatly with this story is that even with the addition of said Norse mythology, the main story is what really dominates well with the characters and how they progress through the entire story. The core characters here are well developed.
As for the art by Matthew Fox, he compliments the story’s tone greatly as well with the use of just blacks, whites and blues which is something fresh if you’ve been getting used to fully colored comics. Every character here is drawn in a simple and consistent manner even the other worldly creatures are done in the same way as well but at the same time they completely feel different the longer they appear throughout the comic.
Overall, Long Walk To Valhalla is sure to win over fans of creator-owned comics as the story progresses along with its minimalistic art style and eventually reaches its satisfying conclusion. This graphic novel also serves as an example of a story that completely stays in its core even with the creative twist presented.
