Getting past the introduction, I knew that I was getting into a comic that dealt with the occult, something I’ve become all too familiar with. Julius Villanueva proves that this isn’t just a supernatural comic by masterfully integrating modern Filipino society whether it’s through subtle imagery of politicians or full scenes of bad drug habits and characters in the squatters setting. The integration isn’t there just for the sake of being there but Villanueva also manages to talk about our society in a way that it’s actually an important part of the comic but without being preachy.

Villanueva’s art is defined by how fun the characters look even against a constantly sad backdrop with supernatural imagery that are adjusted by Mervin Malonzo. It’s definitely something out of an occult oriented comic.
Ella Arcangel Tomo Una: Ito Ay Panganib is a wonderful supernatural comic by a very talented by Julius Villanueva as he delivers this volume through 3 segments that feel different from each other, and organic social commentary. It’s enough to recommend for fans and non-fans of the supernatural genre.
