The premise for White Knight is simple yet entertaining. As much as I love Sean Murphy and his works, BATMAN: WHITE KNIGHT #1 is more like the elseworld story, “I, Joker.” If you haven’t read it, try to look for a copy. Its also a good read. I wouldn’t say that Batman: White Knight will have the same story as that of I, Joker, but there are noticeable similarities between the two.
Despite its similarities, I always enjoy stories where Batman is made vulnerable to human emotions. In this issue, we see how Batman succumbs to depression which will lead to his recklessness in pursuit of the Joker.
Batman: White Knight also has a lot of elements of Batman Year One and The Dark Knight Returns. I guess you just have to read it to find out what I’m talking about.
The interior artwork and its panel transitions are incredible. There’s this Joker panel where he’s freakishly scary but the artwork looks so great. Sean Murphy did a great job with his inks and Matt Hollingsworth perfectly compliments the artwork with his colors.
The book comes with a hefty price tag of $3.99 but rest assured you get your money’s worth. Batman: White Knight #1 has a lot of potential. I can’t wait to read the next chapter of this series!
