Batman teams up with The Riddler, the Joker lost his last ally, and we’re on the tail end of the story. Does Batman have an ace in the whole to salvage Gotham City from the war of Jokes and Riddles?

BATMAN #31 finally speeds things up with one last issue to go before the conclusion of the war of Jokes and Riddles. In this issue, we finally get to see the Batman that we all know—the cut-throat Batman that will do anything to save his city. Tom King also made an adjustment by doing away with the purpose of the whole war by pitting The Riddler and the Joker in a position where both of them couldn’t be restrained. All throughout, I had a problem with appreciating the purpose of the war. However, with batman #31, I couldn’t complain about it anymore. The writing is superb, giving each of the three characters their own spotlight.

With one more issue to go, I am now more confused which I’m more excited about—Catwoman’s answer or the resolution to the war of Jokes and Riddles. While I’m not that impressed with the story, Tom King has made this arc interesting by injecting and giving purpose to third-tier villains like Kite-Man. I can’t wait for the final issue of The War of Jokes and Riddles. That should be fun!
