TOY REVIEW: Figma 199 – THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN

In a few days the sequel, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is about to be released in theaters. It’s timely that the toy review we have for you today is the Amazing Spider-Man, its FIGMA’s 199th action figure based on the original movie released back in 2012.

The Amazing Spider-Man was a reboot to the original Spider-Man movie played by Toby Maguire. The rebooted Peter Parker/Spider-Man is now played by Andrew Garfield (who would also be reprising the role in the sequel). This FIGMA Spider-Man action figure was a challenge to find. I’ve been searching for it since I learned about its release. I tried looking for local toy shops, hobbyists for this action figure for months but to no avail that’s why I decided to have purchased it online. It also didn’t end there, I encountered difficulty with the shipping and I still had to pick it up at the post office. I went through a lot of hassle just to get this figure all for the love of Spidey! I’ve been a long time Spider-Man fan and this also happens to be my first FIGMA action figure reason why I decided to make a review out of it.

PACKAGING – 4/5

The packaging size is the FIGMA standard size box.  The box has the huge Amazing Spider-Man movie logo at the front and you can see Spidey and his accessories from the outside. The only issue I had with the packaging is the additional plastic packaging inside. The plastic somehow blocks Spidey’s view from outside the box. I don’t know if the plastic has any additional purpose but I think that casing is enough to house Spidey. The back of the box shows pictures of some poses you can do with this action figure. The back portion also shows Spider-man using his accessories (the backpack and his smart phone).

ACCESSORIES – 4/5

The FIGMA Amazing Spider-Man comes with four sets of hands: a pair closed fists, a pair of web-shooting hands, a pair of open palm-hands, a pair of web-slinging hands and a single hand that holds his smart phone.  Spidey also has a blue back-pack, a pair of web-fluids (that looks like melted glue stick), a FIGMA base and a plastic Ziplock bag to house all of your accessories. Its easy to lose his accessories (especially the web fluids, I thought I almost lost one as I was taking picture) if you’re not careful enough. I wished that FIGMA had released an alternate head for this figure, an unmasked Spider-Man/Andrew Garfield. It would have been better to use the smart phone without Spidey’s mask.

SCULPT AND PAINT – 4/5

FIGMA did a great job to Spidey’s paint job. The figure looks very similar to costume from the first Amazing Spider-Man movie. The sculpt for Spidey was very detailed, the costume was made to look like spandex and you can clearly see the logos on his front and back plus you can even see his web-shooters on his arms. The only issue I had with this is the colors on the paint; they’re very bright when taken with a flash.

What I liked best about FIGMA’s version of Spider-Man was the articulation they had for this action figure.  I don’t know the exact number of articulation this figure has but it doesn’t matter you can do a lot of poses with FIGMA’s Spidey. Spider-Man has been known to have a lot of dynamic poses and you can most of them with this action figure thanks to the articulation. While I was playing around with Spidey, I had no difficulty with moving his arms, legs and joints. I had fun time making Spidey’s poses (I even managed to get a selfie), its my first time playing around with a FIGMA figure and I had a fine time doing it, the joints weren’t too stiff that they wouldn’t move or loose that they would fall off. I did happen to drop one of Spidey’s arms as I was putting on his backpack but I didn’t had difficulty putting them back in. It may not be a part of articulation but the base was a big help in achieving some of the poses. I mentioned it because this is my first time having a figure with a base and its nice taking pictures with a stand and your figure not falling off.

OVERALL – 4/5

FIGMA_Spiderman

Overall, FIGMA’s Amazing Spider-Man is a nice addition to any Spider fan’s collection or to a FIGMA or any toy collector. You’d have a great time taking pictures of Spidey in different poses; it feels like Spidey was tailored fit to be a FIGMA action figure. It would have been better if FIGMA had included longer web-fluids to recreate Spidey in some web slinging action.  It’s nice that FIGMA had decided to make action figures out of MARVEL properties. With the great job that FIGMA did on this figure, they’d be sure to bring it along once they released the FIGMA Avengers. Later this year, FIGMA is scheduled to release IRON MAN, CAPTAIN AMERICA and THOR action figures.
