DEAD RISING Movie Confirmed

Fans of the Dead Rising game series will be delighted to know that the movie adaptation already started filming as of this week. Dead Rising is a series of open world survival horror games developed by Capcom and produced by video game legend Keiji Inafune of the Megaman and Onimusha series fame. It puts the players in a world infested by zombies and the goal is to escape the city with just a few days to spare. Much of the game is hugely inspired by George A. Romero‘s zombie classics like Dawn Of The Dead (which ironically had filed a lawsuit against the game before..we will discuss this at a later time haha.)

The film, which is now titled as Dead Rising: Watchtower will be directed by Zach Lipvosky and produced by Contradiction Films with Tim Carter taking the lead on the script. According to multiple news sources, it would take place during a large-scale zombie outbreak. With evidence pointing to the government as the main reason for the outbreak (vaccine gone bad…really bad!), our heroes must find a way to get a cure while evading the infection. Those who played the 3rd Dead Rising game should be familiar with this plot.

Jesse Metcalfe (‘John Tucker Must Die‘, ‘Desperate Housewives‘, ‘Dallas‘) will be playing the movie’s lead role, with Meghan Ory (‘Once Upon A Time’, ‘Intelligence’), Virginia Madsen (‘Sideways’, ‘Candyman’, ‘The Number 23′), Dennis Haysbert (’24′, ‘The Unit’) and Keagan Connor Tracy (‘Bates Motel’, ‘Once Upon A Time’, ‘Battlestar Galactica’) all playing supporting roles.

The movie will be released on Crackle before moving to various VOD and TV outlets. It will also be available in episodic formats internationally and is expected to be released sometime in 2015.
