INTEL Announces Button Sized Processor at CES 2015
At this year’s Consumer Electronic’s Show (CES), Intel had unveiled the CURIE module. Intel’s Curie is a “wearable” processor scaled to the size of a button. It is Intel’s attempt to have computing technology fit in more places in your body, without the need of a clasp or band.
The Intel Curie is so small that Intel CEO Brian Krzanich pulled it off from his jacket during the unveiling. The Curie is intended to be an integrated circuit to be built into other devices which means it’s a developer friendly hardware. Intel’s Curie is based on the new version of the Quark chip, Quark SE and has bluetooth LE, a low power sensor hub, pattern-matching accelerator that allows accurate gesture recognition, a six-axis accelerometer and a gyroscope, all inside something as small as your shirt’s button.
Intel hopes that the Curie would help product developers focused more on the product than spending time worrying about low power Bluetooth or gyroscopes. Curie will be available later this year.
