SDCC ’14: Extended Trailer For TEKKEN 7 Released!

Bandai-Namco Games had released a new trailer for the heavily anticipated Tekken 7 during a fighting game panel at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con 2014, and interestingly, it expands on the last teaser shown at the height of the recently concluded EVO Championships.

It opens several years ago with Kazuya’s mother, Kazumi explaining further the source of the Devil’s Gene. In the panel, Tekken Producer Katsuhiro Harada came out with details regarding the game’s development. He shares that the plot of Tekken 7 will be the conclusion of the Mishima clan saga, explaining as to why Heihachi is on a personal vendetta, the true identity of Devil Jin, and other “mysteries” from the past 6 installments.

The basic gameplay is still in the stage of “polishing,” said Harada. No details were given regarding the use of Unreal Engine-4 for the game, but they did promise that we’ll see more of it “soon”. The game is said to feature ONLY one-on-one battles and not tag-team battles like the previous Tekken Tag installment. The only returning character that is confirmed is fan-favorite, Lars(who is also linked with the Mishima bloodline) and that he will be redesigned.

Speaking of character designs, the game will feature several guest artists like: Yusuke Kozaki (No More Heroes), Ninnin (Cardfight!! Vanguard), Mari Shimazaki (Bayonetta), and Kenichiro Yoshimura (Max Anarchy/Anarchy Reigns).  Shinji Aramaki of Captain Harlock and Appleseed series fame will be directing the cinematic for this game.
