TRANSFORMERS: The Last Knight is the 5th installment in Michael Bay’s Transformers franchise. A movie that needs no introduction, The Last Knight is still a continuation of the unending battle between the Autobots and the Decepticons.
The Last Knight tells how the robots in disguise came and why they keep on coming back to our planet. Turns out that the story began as early as the time of king of Arthur and Merlin. The Autobots helped King Arthur and his knights win the war and created a secret society whose main objective is to protect the staff of Merlin from falling into the wrong hands.
All of these were told by the newest addition to the Transformers cast, Anthony Hopkins who plays as the historian, Sir Edmund Burton who also serves as the movie’s narrator. Joining him is Laura Haddock who plays Vivian, the last living descendant of Merlin who holds the key to finding the staff. Another new addition to the cast is Izabella played by Isabela Moner, an orphan and a child wonder who’s pretty good with Transformers. Mark Wahlberg returns as the films lead, Cade Yeager who serves as the Autobots human comrade and helps Vivian locate the staff. It’s like The Da Vinci Code meets The Fast and the Furious, you might be thinking that they don’t mix, and I agree, they don’t. I wonder why they’ve came up with the idea of mixing medieval lore with big robots.
Transformers: The Last Knight is the standard Michael Bay movie. A film that’s big on explosions, special effects, loud, fast-paced mixed with non-stop action. For this installment, it was shot using IMAX technology, which helps makes the movie stand-out as everything looks grand. However, too much emphasis was given on the visuals that the story feels like it has been left out.
Little emphasis has been given to the story and character development, which makes it hard for you to relate to the characters in the movie. There’s so much action going on that the exposition only serves as a break to the movie. The Last Knight probably has the most number of Transformers that appeared in a movie but they’re just so many that you couldn’t tell who’s who.
That being said, Transformers: The Last Knight is no different from its previous installments. Not that it’s totally bad but with it being the 5th installment, you’ll be expecting something fresh that would rejuvenate the franchise. If you still have a knack for watching big robots fighting on the big screen, Transformers: The Last Knight is still entertaining.Transformers: The Last Knight is now showing in 2D, 3D and IMAX 3D cinemas nationwide.
A huge thanks to Columbia Pictures PH for the invite to the advance screening of Transformers: The Last Knight.
