A New DISNEY PRINCESS Descends this 2016!

Lo and behold, we can finally let go of the the Frozen songs that left us humming for weeks as Disney announces its 56th animated feature, Moana, coming this 2016.

Helming the computer graphics-animated comedy adventure are the same ones behind films like The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, and The Princess and the Frog — Directors Ron Clements and John Musker.

Set to sail the ancient South Pacific Islands of Oceania, Disney describes Moana as a teenage girl in search of a fabled island. Joining her in her excursion is the Polynesian mythological hero Maui, and together they will meet mystical creatures and traverse some out of this world places.

This is to hoping that Moana joins the ranks of Brave‘s Merida, Tangled‘s Rapunzel, and Frozen‘s Elsa and Anna, kissing goodbye to stereotyped Disney princesses waiting for their princes to come!

Until then, we can only keep guessing as to how Moana looks like and how she acts in times of distress. In the meantime, we can check out some Moana fan arts online!
