Akira Live Action Trailer

Katsuhiro Otomo‘s cult classic “Akira” might finally get its big screen adaptation after all. A group of independent filmmakers have just recently released their first full trailer of their live action project aptly named “Akira Project”.

According to their website, they are a group of individuals who are currently crowd-sourced and non profit in general aiming to develop an actual trailer/teaser while fans are still waiting for an actual movie to be developed.

Warner Bros. initially took the rights to make a live action movie but as of January 6, 2012, production has been shut down after several attempts of finding the right director and writer for the film. Hopefully someone in Hollywood notices the efforts of these indie filmmakers and have them make this movie a reality.

Here’s the full trailer and trust me when I say that it’s pretty darn good!

Akira is a Japanese manga series, written and illustrated by Katsuhiro Otomo . Set in a post-apocalyptic Neo-Tokyo after the city of Tokyo was destroyed by an apparent nuclear explosion that resulted in World War III. Neo-Tokyo was then formed in an artificial island in Tokyo Bay but is riddled by gang related violence and terrorism targetting their government.

The manga was released as an animated adaptation in 1988 that gained huge following even though it was just a shortened version of the manga itself.

Hi I'm Mac. The day my father Odin banished me from Asgard, I was bitten by a vampire and had radioactive waste dumped into my eyes. To make matters worse, my mutant ability to control weather activated just as I was hit by a blast of gamma radiation.
