Angel Locsin is set to fly again as Darna, a role that made her famous back in 2005. But Darna is not returning to TV but will tackle the big screen in an interview with Star Cinema managing director Malou Santos.
According to Santos, the movie will be set in 2014 and will be play a big role to Star Cinema’s venture into sci-fi as it aims to use the same formula that Hollywood used for ‘The Avengers’ and other movies that are heavy on effects.
Although the plot hasn’t been revealed yet, Darna 2014 will have a modern take - “When we bought the Mars Ravelo stories, gusto namin isa-pelikula ang Darna kung sino si Darna sa panahon ngayon. Definitely, the effects will be different from the past Darna movies. Kasi if you will not showcase the different effects, sasabihin, ano ang binigay na bago?” Santos was quoted as saying.“
If this pushes through, Locsin will be the first actress to portray Darna on both TV and movies in the character’s sixty years of history. Personally having a Filipino superhero flick is great so that more people (especially the new generation) will be familiar with some icons. Hopefully they make a proper remake and not just try to copy from Hollywood especially in making it dark and stuff, since pinoy movies are somewhat known to be hollywood copycats. Let’s just cross our fingers that the quality will be much better storywise and cg-wise!
