Disney Is Developing A Sequel To The Incredibles!

Fans of The Incredibles can expect a super-powered family reunion in the near future. During Disney’s annual meeting in Portland, Oregon on March 18, Chairman and CEO Robert Iger announced that Pixar Animation Studios are developing a sequel to Brad Bird’s 2004 superhero film. Iger broke the news at a meeting with shareholders and D23 Members.

Iger didn’t clarify how Bird would be involved with the sequel, if at all. But the animator still works closely with Disney – he’s currently directing Tomorrowland, a live-action sci-fi adventure based on the theme park attraction, co-written with Lost showrunner Damon Lindelof.

So far, there have been no plot details. For one thing, a decade has already passed, in real life, since the last movie. Perhaps Pixar might decide to bring the family into the present day, as they did with the cast of Toy Story 3. Bob and Helen Parr – a/k/a super-strong Mr. Incredible and stretchy-limbed Elastigirl – would now be approaching mid-life crisis territory. Speedster Dash and force-field-wielder Violet would be in their early 20s – true Millennial superheroes. Meanwhile, Jack-Jack – who was last seen as a shape-shifting infant in the short feature Jack-Jack Attack – would now be closer to Dash’s age in the original film.  That certainly opens a lot of possibilities for some marvelous family hijinks.
