Four Actors Now Eyed For DOCTOR STRANGE
Just days after the inclusion of Robert Downey Jr. into the third Captain America flick, it would seem that Marvel’s getting their hands full as four new frontrunners have emerged for the opportunity of playing the titular role in 2016’s Doctor Strange.
The four actors who are now being considered are the following: Benedict Cumberbatch(Sherlock, Star Trek 2), Colin Farrell(S.W.A.T., Total Recall), Keanu Reeves(The Matrix, Constantine), and a returning Joaquin Phoenix – who apparently have reconsidered the offer weeks after earlier negotiations have fallen out.
Apart from the aforementioned individuals, names such as Jared Leto, Justin Theroux and Oscar Isaac were reported to be on the running as well, and had expressed their interest for the role.
Multiple sources have also told the press that Cumberbatch remains high on the studio’s list and they were surprised when the actor’s name was omitted from this week’s round of media reports. Marvel has long wanted to be in business with Cumberbatch, who is as hot as ever thanks to the awards buzz surrounding his performance in The Imitation Game. However, Cumberbatch’s schedule may prove too tricky to overcome, as he has to film the new season of Sherlock and plans to do a play next year.
(Update – 12:47 pm: Joaquin Phoenix’s publicist releases a statement, insisting that his client does not want to be a part of the project. It is now down to three actors – Cumberbatch, Farrell, and Reeves.)
Stay tuned, as this story is still currently developing.
