A First Look at “Avengers: Age of Ultron” in the Special “Comic-Con” Issue of Entertainment Weekly

In anticipation for 2014’s San Diego Comic-Con, Entertainment Weekly gave us our first official look at Avengers: Age of Ultron In their  special”Comic-Con Preview” issue.  The cover of their special issue features three of the film’s heavy-hitters Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man, Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America but most importantly our first official look at the film’s titular villain, Ultron (voiced by James Spader) striking a pose with a bunch of other Ultrons as well.

The issue includes a set of new photos showcases our first official look inside the “Avengers Tower” and the main stars in their newly designed costumes like Chris Evans’ Captain America, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow, Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye, Mark Ruffallo’s Bruce Banner and Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark (which in one photo would confirm the “Science Bros” dynamic”), and two of the film’s new characters Aaron Taylor Johnson’s Pietro and Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff (in case they’re not called “Quicksilver” and “Scarlet Witch” in this movie).

Returning in the director’s chair, Joss Whedon sat down with EW and had some say about the grand scheme of the film:

“For better or worse, his Tony Stark has devised a plan that won’t require him to put on the Iron Man suit anymore, and should allow Captain America, Thor, Black Widow, Hawkeye, and the Hulk to get some much needed R&R as well. His solution is Ultron, self-aware, self-teaching, artificial intelligence designed to help assess threats, and direct Stark’s Iron Legion of drones to battle evildoers instead.”

But of course, to those who have read a comic book, we all know that won’t be the case and so Joss Whedon commented on the fate of Ultron.

“Ultron sees the big picture and he goes, ‘Okay, we need radical change, which will be violent and appalling, in order to make everything better’; he’s not just going ‘Muhaha, soon I’ll rule!’”

It concludes with a sample of dialogue from Ultron himself: “”I know you’re good people. I know you mean well. But you just didn’t think it through. There is only one path to peace… your extermination“.

Avengers: Age of Ultron is again directed by Joss Whedon and stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, James Spader, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffallo, Paul Bettany, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, and Samuel L. Jackson. This film is set to release in select 3D and 2D theaters May 1, 2015!
