Remember the time when you were playing with your LEGO? When you you had so many loose bricks from different sets and you build something out of it, then you start imagining, and letting your creativity pour into it? Well then, if you want to go back in time and be a kid, and experience once again all those wonders and fun in playing with bricks, this movie is just for you.

The LEGO Movie is not just a kiddie movie just ’cause it’s filled up with LEGOs and it’s animated, but I can say that after watching the movie, it’s really for everyone who’s a kid at heart. If i’m going to describe the movie, I’m just gonna sing that damn catchy song “Everything is awesome“. Yes, it is awesome and it’s definitely charming. One might get too serious in analyzing its plot, but, c’mon people, it’s a story revolving on toys. But it’s not like Toy Story, and I’m pretty glad they’re not, but we’ll get back into that later.

The plot is simple – a regular guy becomes this ‘chosen one’ or ‘master builder‘ in LEGO terms, and has to thwart an evil guy’s plan. So how did this simple story became an awesome one? First is that they absolutely did a great job in realizing the LEGO world, and in the movie, it’s easy to understand how things work and which is which, because they made something about the LEGO world that viewers can relate to — things like instruction manuals, the different LEGO sets and more. Next, is it’s diverse cast of characters like Emmet, Bad Cop, Batman, Vitruvius and more. Voiced by known celebrities like Morgan Freeman, Will Ferrell and Liam Neeson, it was definitely fun and cool. But the coolest thing about LEGO? Is the beautiful mix of computer animation and stop motion (especially that ocean scene). Every movement and tiny detail is captured on-screen, and it definitely transports you to a different world. A colorful world composed of bricks and almost every piece of material LEGO has created. It was truly a world that was meant to inspire. Because of that, I erased the thought of LEGO using this movie as a big marketing scheme, because it was just soooo good.

It definitely has a lot of elements in it too. It had action, very cool chase scene, and a seemingly endless galore of comedy and very random funny scenes. It had a bit of drama too, but it’s not one of it’s strongest points. It doesn’t try to be like Toy Story that drains your eyes of tears, making you feel too sentimental about toys. But, like I said earlier, the LEGO movie didn’t go with the same direction as Toy Story’s but there’s a twist or surprise in the plot that adds more depth and thoughtfulness to the story. I won’t spoil you guys on what it is, I won’t say more about the funny things that you’ll see in the movie, ’cause it would definitely mess up your viewing experience. If you’re a ‘kid at heart’, you should definitely see this, plus, there’s lot of fan service in it too. If you’re not, then you should still see this because it’s just pure awesome and fun. Besides, Morgan Freeman and Liam Neeson is in it!

Now, go watch this movie and if you loved it, I’m sure you’ll be singing “Everything is Awwweesooome!!

VERDICT: 9/10
