BIRDMAN RETURNS In this Viral Trailer by Fox Searchlight!
Today, the people over at Fox Searchlight released a viral trailer to promote the wide release of Alejandro Gonzalez’s Birdman at the US. The trailer’s description reads “TBT” (Throwback Thursday) with the annotation “In 1992, Riggan Thomson makes box office history in Birdman Returns. It will be another 4 years before Riggan famously pulls out of Birdman 4 and disappears off the face of the planet until reviving his career on Broadway!” (this is pretty much a summary of the film’s plot).
The trailer is paying homage or perhaps poking fun at the novelty of having Michael Keaton in this film, who is no stranger to superhero films or at least one of the superheroes who started the age of comic book movies back then. If you cannot tell by the heavy yet overdone narration, the slow reveal of the costume, the stylized landscape and fonts, one could conclude that this is a direct parody of Batman: Returns, the last superhero film where Keaton starred as a lead. Birdman is a dark comedy directed by Alejandro Gonzalez and stars Michael Keaton, Zach Galifianakis, Edward Norton, Andrea Riseborough, Amy Ryan, Emma Stone, and Naomi Watts. This film is said to be released locally February 2015.
