COMIC BOOK REVIEW: RoboCop Last Stand #1

Based on Frank Miller’s original screenplay for RoboCop 2, adapted by Steven Grant and art by Korkut  Öztekin — BOOM! Studios give you “RoboCop Last Stand”.

With Detroit in disarray, and the OCP running things now, it’s up to the renegade Alex Murphy (RoboCop) to right the wrongs and save the oppressed citizens.

This issue doesn’t waste time dallying in backstories (only a few panels to show why RoboCop is against the OCP). It hits you hard from the get-go: terrified hookers to machinery clashing…what’s not to love?

Perhaps the only thing that didn’t quite tickle my fancy is the art. I know, it’s a really big issue in the industry. Maybe I just expected more in this department (who am I kidding? I was expecting Frank Miller’s art!). But, seriously, you gotta check out Öztekin’s art (draldede in DeviantArt) and you’ll understand why I expected more. Complaints aside, the art is reminiscent of the 80’s toons or video game covers, so I guess they did a good job paying a homage to the source material.

The action and pacing is clear and concise, gripping readers to turn the next page.

RATING: 3.5 out of 5, just because I didn’t get an artgasm.
