COMIC BOOK REVIEW: Wolverine and the X-Men #17

Comic book review of Wolverine and the X-Men # 17 by Jason Aaron and Mike Allred.

The latest issue of Wolverine and the X-Men takes a break from all the hustle and bustle of AVX in order to tell the tale of the Jean Grey School for Higher Learning’s faculty member Doop.

Yes the fan favorite Doop is the central figure in this one and done story. To add to the glory that is Doop, Aaron pairs up with Doop’s co-creator Mike Allred (who’ll be the artist for the FF relaunch).

So what’s to love about this book? Well for one, we now officially know what Doop does for the school. His work might not be as “out-there” as Hank or Kitty’s but he does serve a vital role of protecting the students, faculty and the school itself from outside threats.

The kicker in this issue were the insane setups were Doop figures in. From crazy sex hookups with Warbird to cooking pig intestines with Gambit and Cannonball, Doop’s days are as hectic and crazy as Wolverine’s. The book is loud and filled with lots of cool imagery courtesy of Mike Allred. But it still provides a few quite moments which adds more depth to Doop.

A few neat concepts that you should keep your eyes peeled in this book includes Nazi Bowlers as well as a cameo/ guest appearance of a fine feathery fowl whom we haven’t seen for quite some time now.

VERDICT: 4/5
