COMIC BOOK REVIEW: Indestructible Hulk #10
Indestructible Hulk #10‘s the second and final part of “Blind Rage”, showcasing the team-up between Hulk and Daredevil as they try to avert Baron Zemo who got his hands on some heavy weaponry that can hurt the green monster.
Here, Mark Waid brings us a team-up of two characters he’s working on and I’d say we got a decent story and development here. One moment we see Baron Zemo with the Hydra, then the villains clashing with the duo and a few flips later, the duo ends up fighting against each other. All the action’s narrated by Banner who seems to be recalling what happened. Classic and somewhat expected every time Hulk teams-up with anybody and ends up on one of his rage fits.
The comic looks like it’s all centered on Daredevil and Hulk integral to the twist of events. However, it’s interesting to see how Matt Murdock serves as failsafe and acts as lawyer to Bruce Banner, plus Daredevil trying to deal with the rampaging, or rather, panicking Hulk blinded by Baron Zemo. He may be a “glorified acrobat” as Zemo calls him, but Daredevil sure knows what to do if you have a monster who can’t distinguish friend or foe, trashing an armory just beneath Manhattan.
But more than just the action and the characters dealing with the tension and conflict, what’s lovable in this tandem is how they recognize each other. As Hulk puts it:
Devil Man is Hulk’s friend.
Hulk sporting a smile sure looks creepy and scary but he does seem like he’s having fun and enjoying running around with the blind man in red suit. This one’s got the usual quips and exchanges that shed some fun in the middle of tension and action. Plus, Mark Waid did make sure that even after the Hulk becomes enraged and thrash about in the middle of the city, at the end of the day, he’d still be a hero that has Daredevil’s back and vice-versa.
Aside from the story, Matteo Scalera really delivers with his art. Fast-paced Daredevil action and powerful Hulk smashing looked vivid. There were two things that I noticed though: 1) Daredevil and all the other gasping characters had some weird looking and a lil bit off gaping mouths, and 2) We see a lot of Hulk baring his teeth and even smiling! Creepy, scary and funny to look at at the same time. Not sure if it’s just me but take a look at them below:
Whichever’s the case, Indestructible Hulk #10 by Mark Waid and Matteo Scalera really impresses with the action and story. It may not be the best one in the series but this team-up gives a fresh outlook towards the green giant we all followed through the years. Here, the Hulk seems like he’s a new guy with a lil bit of brotherhood going on with Daredevil. But at the same time, he reminds us that he’s still the same berserker monster we knew of. I’d say this one’s worth grabbing off the shelves. Whether you’ve followed the Hulk, or Daredevil, or both, or none of ‘em, this comic from Waid and Scalera gives it all a fresh yet familiar feel that makes it worth checking out.
