Details on New MARVEL Titles Coming this August — GAMBIT and HAWKEYE

Last week, Marvel released a set of teaser images which you could check out here. During the C2E2  Marvel panel, that on August there will be two ongoing titles — Gambit and Hawkeye.

New Gambit ongoing by Asmus and Mann

Gambit will be written by James Asmus (Generation Hope) and Clay Mann (X-Men: Age of X) will be handling art duties.  According to Asmus during the C2E2 “Next big thing” panel – “This book focuses on the two most important aspects of Gambit: #1 that he’s sexy, and #2 that he’s the preeminent bad-ass thief of the Marvel Universe.”

The raging, dashing cajun – Gambit is one of my favorite X-Men ever since the Uncanny X-Men cartoons, and since he came out in the Ps2 game – XMen Legends 2 (he’s such a fun character to play with in that game, I miss that game!). Let’s just hope that they can deliver and that the series would push past 12 issues and more.

Hawkeye will be handled by the creative team of writer Matt Fraction, David Aja on Art and Matt Hollingsworth on Colors. This is the same creative team (minus Ed Brubaker) that made the IMMORTAL IRON FIST. According to an Interview with Fraction in ComicsAlliance –
“He’s the Avenger that’s Just A Dude, under it all. No healing powers, no flight, no rays, no serums, not invulnerable, not magical, not gamma-iradiated or anything else. And yet he stands with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, as the saying goes, and he’s running the Secret Avengers so… so who is he in-between? When the mask comes off? he’s the Just a Dude of the Avengers, these are THOSE stories. About what he does and who he is when he isn’t punching the clock.”

Although its a bit hard for me to swallow in this idea of Clint of just being a ‘dude’, I’m still on board on whatever Matt Fraction will throw in. And with David Aja’s art, his action scenes, sequences, is what I’m really looking for in this new book and you should too. The book will also feature Kate Bishop who also took the name Hawkeye during her time in Young Avengers. I’m not that familiar with the character Hawkeye/Clint Barton and I think that this is a good jumping point for new Hawkeye readers like me.
