Filipina ABIGAIL DELA CRUZ went Morphin Time!

Abigail Dela Cruz

Abigail dela Cruz is a Manila-based freelance illustrator who does storybook illustration, concept work and just recently comic book cover work!

Abigail premiered her first comic book cover work with the new series MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS from BOOM! Studios. She got to be a part of the roster of retailer-exclusive variants for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #1, particularly for Forbidden Planet UK/Jetpack Comics.

FlipGeeks got to have a small chat with Abigail del Cruz about her and how she got the gig from BOOM!.

“BOOM! Studios actually contacted me when they saw my work at the Power Rangers #0 Comic Launch/Official Tribute Exhibition at Gallery Nucleus, my piece along with other artists in the show were picked for the (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers) #1 cover!” Abigail added, “I had to to actually pinch myself when I read that email that morning. I’ve always wanted to try doing cover work, seeing all the cool variant covers people make. so it was exciting but a bit nerve wracking to know they wanted my piece to be a variant cover.”

We asked on what tools did she use for the piece. Abigail replied, “I used Photoshop for the Power Rangers piece and for for most of my digital works.” And added, “I’m more comfortable with drawing digital but I’ve been really wanting to try to work and improve my traditional skills too.”

We inquired toAbigail if she has gotten to watch the show when she was young. She said, “I did! sadly, I vaguely remember all the details of the show but it’s still a big part of my childhood. Pink and Blue Ranger were both my fave!”

Will Abigail dela Cruz do another comic book cover work? “Yes!” She said, “I’ve been recently offered to do an Adventure Time cover. I’ve seen alot of artists I look up to make their own amazing AT covers, so I’m excited to be given a chance to make my own!”
