How do you feel now that you’re on this title?

Really excited. I always wanted to draw Captain America exclusively and this is a very nice opportunity. A bit challenging at the moment since we are coming from the Secret Empire storyline, which is controversial to many people.

What is Captain America to you? And how do you express these ideals when drawing the character?

Captain America is an idea of perfect goodness and honor to me since I was a child. The best person we should look up to.

As for my drawings, I really can’t draw him as enraged as I would when I draw Wolverine for example. He is always in control and only uses enough violence to get the job done.

What are the “must-haves” when drawing Captain America?

Just like any character, a good grasp of anatomy is the main prerequisite. Poses are less challenging than Spider-Man and he isn’t flying and swinging around buildings so he is easier to draw in a way. Those scales on his armor though. Oh boy…

How long will you be in Captain America?

At least 1 story arc, 5 issues, and we’ll see from there.

As part of Marvel’s “Fresh Start” initiative, what are your thoughts on the campaign?

I’m all for it as an artist since my run would be more memorable and identifiable. I understand some frustration from readers.

What issue are you working on now?

I’m starting issue #3.

What’s on your music playlist when working on this?

I usually watch Youtube videos and I can’t seem to be satisfied with just music. I’d rather “listen” to videos – be it a TV series, documentaries and podcasts.

What can we expect from you and Ta-Nehisi Coates’ Captain America?

Lots of emotional scenes and exciting action. A good contrast of pace. I’m really enjoying it!

Captain America #1 hits shelves today!
