Loveness and Kesinger sets GROOT on a solo adventure

grootcover-33a23It seems like the popularity of Guardians of the Galaxy is at an all time high. Most of the members of the group already got their own solo titles, but now it’s time for Groot to join the ranks.

Marvel has announced comics newcomers Jeff Loveness (Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Amazing Spider-Man Special) and Brian Kesinger (Disney Animation) as the creative team to debut the new series starring Marvel’s lovable talking tree this June.

“There’s a huge language barrier between Groot and the rest of the Marvel Universe,” says Loveness. “He may be a kind-hearted soul to us, but to a stranger, he’s just a terrifying tree-monster. He’s bound to get in trouble because of people judging him before they know him.”

The book follows Groot as he takes on an intergalactic adventure after being separated from his partner-in-crime and translator Rocket Raccoon.

When asked if other members of the Marvel universe will appear in the book, Loveness says, “Rocket definitely pops in for some of the cosmic road trip, but this is definitely Groot’s story. Think of this as a Marvel version of ‘Pee Wee’s Big Adventure’ mixed with ‘Dumb and Dumber’ and a little bit of ‘Candide’ tossed in there.”

Groot #1 will debut this June.
