Marvel Celebrates S.H.I.E.L.D.’s 50th Anniversary

SHIELD_50th_Anniversary-LogoThe Marvel Universe’s biggest intelligence agency S.H.I.E.L.D. has come a long way since its introduction in 1965’s Strange Tales #135 by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. For its 50th anniversary, Marvel is launching several projects involving S.H.I.E.L.D. all throughout 2015.

First, this August’s S.H.I.E.L.D. #9 is an oversized anniversary issue that will feature a main story written by Mark Waid with art by Lee Ferguson and a back-up story by Al Ewing. Moreover, the issue includes a never before published S.H.I.E.L.D. sequence by the late Jack Kirby and inked by Jim Steranko.

In September, Marvel will release five weekly one-shots featuring prominent S.H.I.E.L.D. members – Nick Fury, Agent Melinda May, Mockingbird, Quake, and Agent Peggy Carter. Writers David Walker, Jody Houser, Chelsea Cain, Kathryn Immonen, Matt Rosenberg, and Patrick Kindlon will helm these one-shots.

And finally, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. comes to several Marvel titles as variant covers for The Art of Evolution variants this June. The variants feature artwork based on episodes from the second season of the show and will come to the following titles:
