Marvel to Relaunch HAWKEYE with Jeff Lemire and Ramon Perez

Back in 2012, the superstar team of Matt Fraction and David Aja launched Hawkeye (also referred to as “Hawkguy” by fans). It went on to become a commercially successful and critically acclaimed run. But with the book set to end with issue #21, fans may be wondering what happens next for Marvel’s purple archer. Well, Marvel has recently announced plans for Hawkeye.

During the Axel-in-Charge panel at New York Comic-Con 2014, Marvel editor-in-chief Axel Alonso announced that Hawkeye will be relaunching in 2015 with a new #1 issue. The series will be written by Jeff Lemire with pencils by Ramon Perez. This marks Jeff Lemire’s Marvel debut, who coincidentally had a well-known run with DC Comics’ resident archer Green Arrow.

Fraction and Aja’s acclaimed run proved to be popular among fans due to its reinvention of Hawkeye’s character, and also for its non-traditional superhero stories, giving it an “indie” feeling that Marvel has been trying to replicate with its other solo titles. Whether Lemire and Perez could top the previous run remains to be seen.
