Marvel Pits the Avengers versus the X-Men for April 2012

Marvel’s Point One teaser about the return of the Phoenix force might be the first shot in a big epic as Marvel Comics officially announces a big crossover event of sorts in “Avengers vs X-Men” set for 2012.

In a story published on the USA Today website, the publisher announced a 12-part bi-weekly series debuting in April. The core “Avengers Vs. X-Men” title will be co-written by Marvel’s “Architect” writers — Brian Michael Bendis, Jason Aaron, Jonathan Hickman, Ed Brubaker and Matt Fraction — and drawn by big name artists Frank Cho, John Romita, Jr., Olivier Coipel and Adam Kubert.

To make things interesting, the story will once again revolve around Hope Summers (the messiah kid from Messiah Complex). This time, the Avengers plan to do something with regards to the connection between Hope and the Phoenix.

If you think about it, Cable‘s imminent return in “Avengers X-Sanction” now makes perfect sense as he’s trying to prevent the Avengers from targetting his adopted daughter.

Another mutant that will connect with this series is former Avenger Scarlet Witch who was also the cause of “House of M” and “Avengers Disassembled“. Currently though, Wanda is appearing side by side with the Young Avengers.
