OWLY in Jeopardy!…

Add another feather in the cap of cartoonist Andy Runton, author of the wildly popular graphic novel series Owly.

As part of their annual Kids Week, the popular quiz show Jeopardy! always looks to stay in touch with what kids love, by preparing fun and challenging clues for the young geniuses competing on the show. And Kids Week 2011– next week — features Owly as a visual clue in the July 6 episode!

This latest appearance comes during a big year for Owly, the vegetarian owl whose adventures with his best friend Wormy form the basis of their beloved series, published by Top Shelf Productions. The newest Owly book is the little guy’s first adventure in full color, a 40-page hardcover picture book titled Owly & Wormy: Friends All Aflutter! Coming up next is the 6th full-length Owly graphic novel, A Fishy Situation, to be published in early 2012.

This isn’t the first time a Top Shelf book has been a Jeopardy! clue – a February 2010 episode referred to The Surrogates, Robert Venditti & Brett Weldele’s graphic novel which had recently been adapted to film. Winning that clue helped contestant James Hill conquer the episode with over $25,000 — let’s hope Owly is similarly lucky for the players next Wednesday! Tune in then to find out!

ABOUT OWLY:

Owly is a series of wordless graphic novels for all ages, written and drawn by Andy Runton and published by Top Shelf Productions. It’s an indy-publishing sensation, with over 100,000 copies of the 5 volumes currently in print, plus the brand-new full-color picture book Owly & Wormy: Friends All Aflutter! published by Simon & Schuster under license from Top Shelf, as well as Kindle editions, an animated short film and an assortment of toys, T-shirts, and merchandise. The multi-award-winning series was recently named one of “25 Books All Young Georgians Should Read” by the Georgia Center for the Book.
