KOMIKS INTERVIEW with Lui Antonio on Pinoy Komiks Assemble!, Dejah Thoris and more

Jomar Bulda, who I was able to interview just recently shared his story on how Lui Antonio affected his life. This time, I get the chance to interview Lui, who, together with other komikeros, assemble to lend a hand for the earthquake victims in Bohol. Here he talks about the drive, and his other works that’re going on.

Alvin Miñon:
Kamustahin po sana namin yung tungkol sa drive, like what is it, who’s in it, at pano yung mangyayari po dito. Norby said isa sya sa maraming komikerong kalahok dito…

“I think we ought to do something to our fellow kababayans specifically in Bohol affected by the recent earthquake…i’m willing to auction some of my artworks to generate a fund for donation”

This status made a chain reaction to my friends and other artists like me at akala nila ako talaga ang mag oorganize since willing naman ang karamihan kaya ayun pinangatawanan ko na kasi gusto ko talaga kahit usually nagdodonate lang ako at yun nga wala akong idea kung pano to i-organize so humingi ako ng tulong kay Johnny Danganan kasi sya ay well experienced na sa ganito kasi member sya ng NGO. Seeked his suggestions/advice with some of Komikero‘s founding member and long time friend na si Gerry Alanguilan together with cool guy Jonas Diego and then eventually I consulted all that’s been finalized plans to Jon Zamar of Komicon and ayun it seemed turning out well for everybody since it’s a good cause at aware naman ang lahat sa mga nagyayari sa Bohol.

Lahat ng pera na maiipon namin thru auctioning of artworks by all participating artists ay idadaan namin sa NGO na where Johnny Danganan is working proven and trusted na po yun dahil sa nag donate na rin ako ng artwork dati pa sa “Lapis at Papel” para sa mga elementary students ng Mindanao. At nga pala yung unang donation artwork ko this year is for Virgil Espinosa para sa kidney operation nya before pa nangyari ang Bohol Earthquake.

Pasensya na kung medyo napahaba ang kwento ko, all is made possible by people who helped me big time
Johnny Danganan, Gerry Alanguilan, Jonas Diego and most especially Jon Zamar
A: Aside from the art for the earthquake drive, kamusta po yung mga book na ginagawa nyo ngayon?

L: I recently finished another Dejah Thoris mini series ang original plan is 1-4 issues lang then they (the editor and the wirter) stretched it up to issue 8, sa ngayon wala pang new book project kaya kaya in-accept ko yung invitation ng Rittenhouse na gumawa ulit ng sketch cards plus yung mga pending commission artworks tinatapos ko at pasensya na rin sa mga naghintay almost a year.

A: Something that would catch any reader’s attention ay yung style nyo po ng pagdrawing ng mga female characters, yung form, yung alindog haha. My favorite in particular yung sa Dejah Thoris.

A: Ano po inspiration or tips nyo on working on female characters?
L: Inspiration sa pag drawing ng female figure? Wala naman. Picture lang ng totoong females mostly celebrities pag minsan si Paulo Siqueira

Tips on drawing female figure, kung sa mga baguhan hindi applicable to pero sa mga lume-level na mas advisable pa rin that you keep checking the true human figure as in real human, real people around you or picture of real chicks kahit sa internet or magazines, naked or with clothes etc.depending on what you’re targeting to draw for the moment.

A: Any plans to work for the big two? Or any other book you’d like to work on?
L: Plans to work for the big 2, wala. i’d like to try Vampirella pero rejected.

A: San po kayo pwedeng hagilapin ng readers at fans nyo? or kontakin for commissions?
L: For artwork commission they can message me here at facebook din lang.

A: Any invitation or announcement or message po para sa kanila?
L: Keep supporting all Filipino artist sa buong mundo.
