The History of Filipino Artists with DEADPOOL
BONG DAZO
If there is one countryman who is arguably the quintessential Filipino comic book artist for Deadpool, look no further, its is Bong Dazo. He drew more Deadpool issues than all the combined arts of this list alone. He illustrated tons of Filipino Easter eggs to make his Deadpool stay have that authentic and wacky Pinoy experience. For example, Savage Land was located in the Philippines; Q-Mart had a branch in New York City; mention of Filipino rock music references. The list goes on. Starting with Deadpool: Merc With a Mouth in the late 2000s, and continued in many Deadpool tales like, Deadpool: Space Oddity, Deadpool: Operation Annihilation, Thunderbolts: Die Initiative, Wolverine and Deadpool, Fear Itself: Deadpool/Fearsome Four and Deadpool #27. It is so unsurprising that Dazo’s run is described as a true “madcap” reading and visual experiential treat. Irreverent, funny, chaotic with some Filipino reference, Dazo’s contribution to Deadpool is a true delight.
If you will watch the new Deadpool film this week, do remember that we have Filipino comic book artists who has drawn him.
