Winter Soldier leads the New THUNDERBOLTS

Following the announcement of Steve Rogers returning as Captain America, Marvel Comics has revealed that the THUNDERBOLTS will be returning as well in a new ongoing series with writer Jim Zub (Wayward, Samurai Jack) and artist Jon Malin (Youngblood) at the helm.

Classic Thunderbolts members such as the Fixer, Moonstone, Atlas, and MACH-V are set to return but this time with a new leader, the Winter Soldier. In keeping with tradition, the core concept of the book is about villains seeking redemption and striving to do good in spite of their past.

“Super villains looking for redemption I think is the ultimate strength and heart of Thunderbolts and sets it apart from everything out there,” says Malin. “These characters have done very bad things—willingly. No one mind controlled them, they made choices of their own free will and that can never be fully taken back. That motivates me beyond belief to tell this story.”

The Thunderbolts has had several lineup changes over the years. The most recent one in 2013 featuring fan-favorites like Punisher and Deadpool.

No released date has been announced for Thunderbolts. But the series will spin out of the upcoming Avengers: Standoff! event this summer.
