ULTRAMAN Goes Armored In New Manga [Video]

There’s a new armored superhero. Well he’s not exactly new and a lot of otakus and us 90s kids would probably know him. ULTRAMAN – earth’s protector who uses his super height and kickass Ultra Beam/Specium Ray against gigantic alien monsters. We all probably know the TV version Ultraman that has the huge bug eyes, and a pointy fin on top of his head designs. But in case you weren’t aware, in 2011 manga creators Eiichi Shimizu and Tomohiro Shimoguchi through Japan’s Monthly Hero’s Magazine, created a different version of the famous figure.

Armored Ultraman Manga

In this manga, a normal human dons a high-tech suit in order to protect the planet known as Ultraman. A lot of people especially fans of Western Comics may argue that he’s just like Iron Man – a man in a suit, but this Ultraman even though has a different look still retains essential themes such as the color of his costumes, moves and more.

A motion comic (below) is being promoted for the series’ third collected volume in which main protagonist Shinjiro Hayata, son of Shin Hayata – the original human host for Ultraman has now donned his father’s high tech “Ultra Suit” to combat new threats. It’s been 40 years after the original Ultraman left earth and Shinjiro is the only one whose blood is compatible with the armored suit and use this to protect Earth. With the Ultra Suit, Shinjiro is able to access energies unique to Ultraman and other beings from the Land of Light and of course let’s him do all that Ultra stuff.

Set in a darker tone and targeting a teen-adult audience, this series is much different than the kid-friendly ones before. The third volume will arrive in Japan this September. There’s also no word yet if this manga will have a North American release, but it would be pretty cool if we had an english version of this especially in anime format.
