SWEETNESS of the OPPRESSED
Ardie Aquino shows why a simple moment is the most memorable of all in his “mini-comic” entitled Minsan Gusto Ko Magwala. The issue of bullying is explored here, particularly the childhood experience of enjoying the sweetness and delectable of the dirty ice-cream. Yes, the creator wants to examine the inner feelings of the bullied towards his tormentors in a series of dream-like imaginary sequences that contrasts the utilization of the usual black-and-white color scheme that eventually shifts to realism and then the realization of the follies.
Aesthetically simple but the dialogues are oozing with powerful emotional feeling that we readers who know, feel, and aware this unpleasant phase of life would surely approve upon.
Moreover, these same scripts and their eventual artistic interpretations are also highlighted and applied to good effects to bring forth the bluntness of the overall theme. Thus, Ardie shows us that we humans are really capable of knowing of our mistakes afterwards. Sweet!
