REVIEW: Get ready, fans for ‘Star Trek: Discovery #1′
Star Trek: Discovery #1 is more what a completionist would read.
Full disclosure: when I watch Star Trek: Discovery I’m not too interested in the Klingon stuff. Like I get why they want to tell that story, but it doesn’t come off as compelling to me. To be fair, the human stuff needs work too. But that’s just me ranting about how that show could be better now.
That said, this comic plops down into my lap and at first I’m excited at the idea that maybe getting more adventuring and stuff. And instead, well, we get the origin story of T’kuvma (who, spoiler alert, dies early in the series). So it doesn’t hold that much narrative weight in terms of pushing Discovery forward.
I suppose that books like this are required, and I remember previous comics series for Khan and Nero. Those were actually pretty good. Star Trek: Discovery #1 is more what a completionist would read. If you’re looking for more Star Trek (and I am totally for people who can’t get enough) then this is up your alley. But if not, then this is a pass.
