The Flash Zooms Into San Diego Comic-Con With All New Trailer!

The entire cast of The Flash dropped by Ballroom 20 in San Diego to talk about the show and there are so many things to unpack from the panel at this year’s Comic-Con, where do I even start? I’m so excited I’m just going to blurt the trailer highlights all out! There’s another non-speedster villain, Nora West-Allen as XS, and The Flash ring!

What’s not shown but mentioned during the panel? A new Wells will show up this season and the possibility of a Gorilla Grodd vs. King Shark. Mind. Blown.

It’s a good thing Grant Gustin, Candice Patton, Carlos Valdes, Danielle Panabaker, Jessica Parker-Kennedy, Hartley Sawyer, Danielle Nicolet, Tom Cavanaugh and executive producer Todd Helbing all turned up to give us some insight to what’s going to happen to Team Flash this season.

Let’s go about this one-by-one.

This season’s big bad is Cicada played Chris Klein. Cicada, for anyone wondering, is described in the DC Comics lore as a cult leader who is obsessed with the Flash but producer Todd Helbing says we’re going to be seeing a different interpretation of the villain this season.

“So we always take these villains from the comics and put them through the Flash blender. He’s not so much a cult leader but his powers sort of present a challenge to Team Flash that they’ve never dealt with before,”Helbing said at the panel.

And it’s good news for all of us who’ve waited five seasons for it to happen because Barry is finally getting his Flash ring!

“I’m very, very excited. I’ve wanted to have it for a very long time, so we’re all pretty excited about it,” The Flash star Grant Gustin said.

The ring isn’t the only costume upgrade the Scarlet Speedster will get this season. Gustin revealed that The Flash will also get “a really, really cool new suit” this year—one that’s going to be the most comic book-influenced suits that Gustin will have on the show.

Now, basing from the trailer it looks like Nora West-Allen (Jessica Parker-Kennedy), who has the superhero name XS (seemingly a nod to Jessica Ognats, who in the comics is Barry Allen’s granddaughter) is stuck in the past. And it seems she’s hiding something from her parents that will be a cause for worry.

“I think we’re kind of all on different pages. Barry, Iris and Nora are all in very different headspaces,” Gustin said. “Nora is pretty clingy to Barry. We don’t know why. She’s kind of attached to him when she arrives and a little more distant with Iris.”

Did something happen to Barry in the future that Nora seems to be paying more attention to her dad than her mom?

“I think it’s a weird thing for Iris to see them bond so easily…obviously something happened in the future, which worries Iris,” Candice Patton added.

It was also confirmed during the panel that we’re going to see a new version of Harrison Wells this season.

“A newer Wells who has come to join these people who is a very intelligent human being who is maybe not to be trusted who goes by the name of Sherloque Wells,” Tom Cavanagh said.

Anyone keeping count on the number of Wells we’ve seen on the show?

While all these news are exciting one thing stood out for me during this panel. The possibility that we might see a fight between fan favorites Gorilla Groddand King Shark, something producers have wanted for quite some time. But cross your fingers for this one because the chance of this happening would depend on the show’s budget by the time they reach the back half of the season.

Oh man! I cannot wait for this season to start. Is it October already? While we wait check out the season 5 trailer of The Flash that premiered at SDCC.
