Jump Into The World of PEZ Candies and Dispensers

PEZ Philippines, in partnership with FlipGeeks, recently held a product launch showcasing its history and assorted products, while also conducting some fun and games for the guests.

PEZ is known for its fruit flavored candy pieces, however it’s mostly popular for its large number of designs for its pocket dispensers. The success of PEZ’s dispensers has made the brand a part of pop culture worldwide.

Originally a luxury peppermint candy, PEZ was created by candy maker Eduard Haas III in Vienna, Austria in 1927. The name was derived from the German word for peppermint – pfefferminz. Before its widespread popularity, PEZ was originally marketed as an alternative to smoking. In fact, the very first dispenser was made in the shape of a cigarette lighter. Each dispenser can hold up to 12 pieces.

After World War II, Haas brought the brand to the United States and started adding heads to the dispensers as a way to market them for children. In addition, PEZ introduced fruit flavored candies to its product line.

Their collaboration with Walt Disney in 1962 paved the way for PEZ to become a sought out brand in pop culture. Since then the brand has made its way in over 80 countries worldwide and produced over 1,500 different dispensers featuring various pop culture franchises such as Looney Tunes, Star Wars, Marvel, DC Comics and many more. Due to the different designs, some dispensers have become collector’s items and are sought out by enthusiasts.

As a way to expand PEZ’s presence in the Philippines, ADP Industries Corporation held fun activities for the guests such as auctions for PEZ dispensers and trivia games. Furthermore, it was a great opportunity to showcase the various candies and dispensers that’s been capturing the hearts of people for years.

From Star Trek to Looney Tunes, the biggest franchises in pop culture were displayed in their dispensers along with the assorted flavored candies. And did you know that the candies are vegan, lactose-free and gluten-free?

Partnering with mobile apps developer ROVIO, they introduced a new interactive mobile game called PEZplay, where you can scan the bird code found in Angry Birds dispensers to use in the game. It’s a great way for enthusiasts and also children to enjoy a mobile game, while also collecting dispensers.

Today, PEZ is growing bigger than ever by introducing more products and franchises to their line. The recent Disney/Pixar film Finding Dory already has its own line of dispensers. And soon the film The Secret Life of Pets will be making its way into the world of PEZ.

More and more stores are carrying PEZ products so it’s good time to get into the colorful world of PEZ!
