OFFICIAL: Breath of Fire 6 is coming to Android and iOS
The fiery legacy of Breath of Fire lives on, albeit with a few glaring changes.
Announced in 2013, Breath of Fire 6 distances itself away from its predecessors, shaping the BoF universe rather unexpectedly. Originally published as home console titles, Breath of Fire 6 will be available on devices running Android and iOs firmwares, with a browser version coming along soon. The last entry into the BoF series was in 2002 – Dragon Quarter, an industrialized reimagining of the realm surrounding protagonist Ryu, can be treated as a precedent to Capcom’s long-term interest in expanding the franchise to a whole new audience.
Breath of Fire 6 will not bring back Ryu and Nina. Players will instead be introduced to a class system – a mechanic that has never been explored in previous Breath of Fire games until now. There is no clear information how the system will work out, but it’s obvious that Breath of Fire 6 will be borrowing elements from established MMOs like building levels or allocating skill points to facilitate character growth.
To make us feel that we are still touching Breath of Fire sacred grounds, characters will be able to transform into a powerful dragon, similarly how Ryu would during combat. Rustically named as D-Trance Mode, players can momentarily shapeshift into a flying dragon and turn battles into their favor. It is still a mystery how this mode can be achieved during active combat.
Breath of Fire 6 is online, but much of its gameplay focuses on a single-player campaign, without Capcom drawing some hints how much online functions will be there for players to take control of. Apart from multiplayer – which allows any player to form a party of four – other online features remain temporarily shut down for the public and only those who signed up for the beta phase might be able to sneak in a few early access dirt .
The sad part is this: beta is available inside Japan only. There is no announcement if Capcom will have a second round of testing for ASEAN countries.
