A stellar cast with a good chemistry, effective comedic writing and it's fail-safe CG special effects are the driving forces for this movie.

Some of the cast members were not given enough time to shine, like Attila the Hun and Merenkahre, Ben Kingsley's character (who pretty much was just there for roughly less than ten minutes in the entire movie).

It’s been a heck of a ride for Larry Daley ever since the first two movies. Who would have thought he has grown from a lowly graveyard-shift watchman at New York’s famous American Museum of Natural History to one who is almost being in charge of the place? Well, at least in charge of the museum’s amazing animatronics display that continues to attract more guests. Then, in a strange turn of events, the tablet of Ahkmenrah starts to corrode, making the museum’s living exhibits behave erratically and weaken. Concerned, Larry dives into a quick research of the tablet and after learning about its origins, flies to the British Museum to seek the advice of Ahkmenrah’s parents Merenkahre (Ben Kingsley) and Shepseheret on how to stop the tablet from deteriorating and to save his friends’ lives before they lose the power to come to life forever.

Night at the Museum 3: Secret of the Tomb is the third and final instalment to this hugely popular franchise brought to you by 20th Century Fox. In this send-off film, the story takes us to the origins of the tablet and sheds a satisfying light to the reason behind the tablet of Ahkmenrah’s mystical powers. It eliminates all open-ended questions about the story of the franchise and leaves no stone unturned. The humour did not lose a beat in this third outing. Ben Stiller was his trademark self, with his deadpan face and sometimes serious responses to comical situations but often making up to it with his hilarious reactions to certain situations. For his part, co-star Ricky Gervais was superbly funny as Dr. McPhee, the uptight curator of the museum. I found myself laughing at him more than Ben Stiller to be quite honest. They also included a few surprises in the movie that will surely leave you in stitches after seeing it. (I won’t spoil it here, don’t worry!)

As entertaining as it was, the movie also had its fair share of emotional and serious moments, such as when Larry was struggling with how to deal with his son’s unfavourable decision not to go to college after graduating from high school. The writers also gave the late Robin Williams a special dedication. Despite a hardly cherishing role, Williams was given a proper final scene with Ben Stiller that doubled as a touching send-off and left some viewers going “Awww…” It just goes to show that everyone misses the late comedian terribly, this writer included. (A quick trivia: This is actually the final film that Robin Williams had filmed.)

In conclusion, Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb is, as expected, a movie that effectively strikes one’s funny bone and will surely make you leave the cinema with a huge smile on your face. This is one of those funny family movies that will have you talking about it for days and is a fitting end to this unforgettable trilogy.
