The Five STAR WARS Stories That Deserve Film Treatment
THE YUUZHAN VONG CONFLICT
One of the longest storylines in the non-canonical Expanded Universe, the Yuuzhan Vong invasion was the centerpiece of the New Jedi Order series of novels. Additional stories linked with the storyline were created in part to its popularity with the fans. It was also home to fan-favorite characters Mara Jade, Ben Skywalker, Jacen Solo and Jaina Solo.
Taking place 21 years after Return of The Jedi, the New Republic, with the New Jedi Order (lead by Luke Skywalker) at its core is facing internal conflict while struggling to maintain peace within the Galaxy. While all these is occurring, a mysterious alien race known as the Yuuzhan Vong emerges from the Outer Rim and begins their attack on several planets. The Jedi soon find themselves at the cusp of decimation, as several losses from the Republic’s end and the Yuuzhan Vong’s organic technology hamper their efforts to resist the latter. Moreso, the demise of characters such as Anakin Solo and Chewbacca dealt a heavy blow to the protagonists’ morale.
Truth be told, the Yuuzhan Vong proved themselves as the strongest adversaries of the New Republic in the Expanded Universe, and it will be a great idea to translate them into live-action as antagonists for the new trilogy.
