WATCH: First ‘The New Mutants’ Trailer Shows The Horrors of Being A Mutant

NewMutants

Since the boom of superhero movies, there was an idea that they shouldn’t just constrict itself as just a superhero movie but mix it with other genres as well to keep it fresh and give us a new experience each time. With 20th Century Fox establishing their own cinematic universe they have experimented with that idea recently with Logan being a post-apocalyptic western drama and Deadpool being a romantic comedy.

Now, they do so again with a horror-superhero amalgam but this movie looked like it complete with kids singing an eerie tune, a claustrophobic asylum setting, and preppy looking teenagers. Director Josh Boone did promise that his film will take liberties from the New Mutants we know to devoid from the traditional big budget fare like its counterparts in Singer’s X-Men. And after seeing this brand new trailer, it does look like they’re doing just that with a more horrific take on being a mutant.
The New Mutants were creations of Chris Claremont and Bob McLeod in the Early 80s, telling the stories of a smaller X-Men team in training. In the new film it will be about Five young mutants, just discovering their abilities while held in a secret facility against their will, fight to escape their past sins and save themselves.

“The New Mutants” stars Split’s Anya-Taylor Joy as Illyana Rasputin/Magik, Game of Thrones’ Maisie Williams as Rahne Sinclair/Wolfsbane, 13 Reasons Why’s Henry Zaga as Roberto da Costa/Sunspot, Stranger Things’ Charlie Heaton as Sam Guthrie/Cannonball, The Originals’ Blu Hunt as Danielle Moonstar/Mirage and Elysium’s Alicia Braga as Dr. Cecilia Reyes. The film is set to release April 13, 2018!
