You’re In For A Scare With A First Look At GOOSEBUMPS!

Goosebumps will finally come to life on a bigger screen, but not how you think it’ll be. EW had their first look on the film and released two images from their double-sized Comic-Con issue, where Jack Black (who looks like he is a mix of Philip Seymour Hoffman and Tom Arnold in one picture) plays the writer of the Goosebumps series, R.L. Stine as he is pitted with some of his famous monsters with two other actors, Dylan Minnete (famous for freezing the entire S.H.I.E.L.D. Academy in one episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) as Zach Cooper and newcomer Odeya Rush as R.L. Stine’s daughter, Hannah.

In case you don’t know (or don’t remember) Goosebumps is a children’s horror series by R.L. Stine, where it features haunted houses, school halls, ghouls, and monsters ranging from werewolves, mummies, zombies, and phantoms. It was later on adapted to a TV series for Nickelodeon at the foot of the 90s (no, “Are you Afraid of the Dark?” is different). Jack Black sat down with EW and talked about his character and the movie. He also commented on how it will be adapted with the scares for the kids, R.L. Stine promised them when he made the books and the TV episodes.

“I play R.L. Stine, who’s not in any of the books, but he’s an essential character in this movie, which is all about when all of his characters come to life. It was kind of a great way to bring out all of the scary beasts and monsters from all of his books in one movie.”

“Kids like scary movies, but you can’t take them to what are the big scary movies now where Satan comes out and bites your genitals off. Those movies can actually leave you mentally scared; that’s not for kids. But kids still like to get a little thrill and a little danger, so you need projects like this.”

Perhaps we’ll see a trailer soon for this movie, especially when Comic-Con is just right around the corner. Stay tuned for more updates!

Goosebumps stars Jack Black, Dylan Minnete, and Odeya Rush. This film is set to hit theaters August 7th, 2014.
