Best Blockbluster Film: Rogue One

With the success of last year’s The Force Awakens, Disney/Lucasfilm’s first spinoff debut proves that Star Wars is more than just blockbuster flick and it is also an actor’s movie and since the screenplay focuses on the gray areas of the conflict between the rebels and the empire, it allowed the cast to demonstrate their acting chops and range. Felicity Jones and Ben Mendelsohn defy character stereotypes and bring intense, human performances.

Breakthrough of The Year: Doctor Strange

Doctor Strange is a perfect example why we fall in love with the Marvel Cinematic universe. It may be plain and simple and origin story but the spiritual element is what makes the storytelling deeper it explores the Stephen Strange’s humanity. The beautiful, stunning visual effects deserves a shout out because it becomes a part of the story and makes possibilities a reality.

Best Local Film: Mercury is Mine

Black Comedy, Mystery and Drama, these three genre gives us different layers of the Filipino obsession of “white obsession” culture and what makes Mercury a standout indie that it celebrates spirit of the independent filmmaking where it doesn’t shy away to give a social commentary on the said issues. And Pokwang is known to comedy mainstream audience shows a different side beyond her known slapstick humor: cynical, sarcastic and vulnerable that adds dimension to her performance.

Worst Film of The Year: Captain America: Civil War

Visually looks similar to the past Avengers movies and the fact that the film became more of an ensemble piece rather than the conclusion (closure at least) of Steve Rogers’ story and this reinforces that Civil War is an extension of Age of Ultron where it simply filled with fanservice for the fans and market future Marvel movies.
