Netflix to Develop THE WITCHER Series

Netflix will develop a new show based on The Witcher saga, a series of fantasy novels by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski that turned into a hit RPG franchise.

Sapkowski will serve as a creative consultant for the show. “I’m thrilled that Netflix will be doing an adaptation of my stories, staying true to the source material and the themes that I have spent over 30 years writing,” he stated in a statement. “I’m excited about our efforts together, as well as the team assembled to shepherd these characters to life.”

Sean Daniel (The Mummy franchise, The Expanse) and Jason Brown (The Expanse) are executive producers, along with Tomek Baginski and Jarek Sawko from Platige Image, the production and visual effects company that made the games’ CGI trailers. Baginski is also slated to direct at least one episode per season.

It is still unclear what stories the series will follow, or if it will produce an original story from scratch.

The Witcher saga centers around “Witchers” — specifically Geralt of Rivia — a group of hunters who have undergone extensive training and rituals from a young age to eventually become monster slayers for hire. The books have been adapted into a movie, a TV series and comic books before, but the property has gained massive popularity worldwide through a series of role-playing games developed by CD Projekt Red.
