COMIC BOOK REVIEW: Avengers vs X-Men # 6

Reviewing Avengers vs X-Men # 6 by Jonathan Hickman and Olivier Coipel

The sixth round of Avengers vs X-Men turns the tide for the mutants especially with the arrival of the Phoenix Five (Cyclops, Emma Frost, Namor, Colossus and Magik). Not only did the world slowly accept the benevolence that these five empowered mutants have given, for the first time in decades things are looking better.

While it might seem like a good thing for the mutants of Utopia together with the rest of the world, there are still some people who are pretty much scared such as Captain America and most of the Avengers.

I loved this issue primarily for the art provided by issue penciller Coipel. We get to see some great moments for the Phoenix Five (who literally change the world with the power of the fiery phoenix entity.) There are also some great dialogues that gets magnified thanks to the apt pencils of the artist (such as Beast trolling The Avengers as well as his walking out).

Overall the plot points for AvX # 6 definitely shows signs of predictability. And thanks to the solicits for the next few months we already know what’s going to happen to Earth’s Mightiest Heroes after pissing off the “almighty” Phoenix Five. If you are looking for something that will change the status quo for the rest of the characters and the team, it’s not going to happen so don’t believe the solicits on this issue.

With that brushed aside, let me tell you about the other good things about this issue. We have a fight between the Avengers and the X-Men (hence the title) with some great character moments for both sides. Not only that, we also get our first tease at the other major players for the Avengers that are starting to emerge from the woodwork.

I really loved this issue thanks to the good writing and scripts provided by Jonathan Hickman together with the soon-to-be classic art style of a certain Coipel.

Oh and if this book still has you on the fence here’s a little something to whet your appettite.
