News and Scoops from ANT-MAN’s Anthill!

While people are spazzing over spiders and adamantium claws and rebounding shields due to the lineup of movies for this summer, there are a lot of progress going on with another Marvel comic hero’s movie that will hit the silver screen next year. So for those who’ve missed the updates, here’s a bit of news for Marvel‘s Avengers 2 follow-up and the first “Phase Three” film, Ant-Man.

It’s been settled that Ant-Man would have Paul Rudd as Scott Lang and Michael Douglas as Hank Pym. However, there’s news of a “third charismatic leading man” that will be filled up. Patrick Wilson is now in negotiations to join Director Edgar Wright‘s cast.

Wilson’s known for being Nite Owl in Watchmen so if it’s a charismatic leading man you’re talking about, he could fit the bill. As for who this character would be, we have no idea yet. Possible roles include that of a young Hank Pym since portions of the movie will be taking place in the 1960s. We’ll be seeing Pym in action as an operative for the US during the Cold War.

Another could be Eric O’Grady, the third Ant-Man. Created by Stan Lee, Pym first appeared in 1962 as the biochemist who discovered the subatomic particles that would allow him to alter his size and control ants. Lang’s a reformed thief and electronics expert who uses Pym’s technology. O’Grady on the other hand, first appeared in 2006’s Civil War: Choosing Sides as a mischievous S.H.I.E.L.D. agent who stumbles upon the Ant-Man suit.

There’s also the possible villain role. However, when it comes to villains what we’re only sure of is that Michael Pena is in the talks to play the villain Castillo. An original character for the movie and a fictional analogue to Cuban leader Fidel Castro, the Cesar Chavez star’s role will be that of the villain for the 1960s sequence so there could still be a second villain later on.

Latest actor reported to be in final talks to join the cast is Corey Stoll of House of Cards. His part is still unknown but we might be hearing more about this very soon.

As for the female roles, previously rumored names for the part of Janet “The Wasp” Van Dyne include Olivia Munn, Eva Longoria, Rashida Jones and Dallas Howard. Latest scoop though is that Evangeline Lilly of Lost is now in the talks to join the cast. Since the film will have an aged Pym with past sequences, Lilly might be playing a younger Wasp in the 1960s, or, Pym’s daughter and/or Scott Lang’s love interest.

If you’re not hyped up by those names yet, perhaps some concept art recently released in Marvel Studios: Assembling a Universe special would:

Produced by Kevin Feige and penned by Wright and Joe Cornish, Disney has set Ant-Man for July 2015, just right after Avengers: Age of Ultron.
