In the recently concluded CES (Consumer Electronics Show) 2015, gaming entertainment device company RAZER had officially joined the Virtual Reality marketplace. Razer along with SENSICS had officially revealed the OSVR (Open Source Virtual Reality) at this year’s CES.

The OSVR looks closely similar to another virtual reality unit, the Oculus Rift. The OSVR has the same basic functions as the Oculus Rift, it’s a device you put on your head with a small display in front of your eyes with a strap that holds the unit comfortably in your head.

CES attendees were able to try a prototype version of the OSVR, the Hacker Devt Kit (HDK) . Some of the features of the OSVR include an independent per-eye IPD and diopter adjustments that lets you adjust the distance between your eyes and the lenses. It also has a 2 element lens system that eliminates that need for pre-warping and chromatic aberration of the rendered scene, while the majority of headsets uses the single lens and is still using the same techniques.

Razer mentioned that the OSVR HDK is fully open-source, whether it’s a hardware developmental kit design or software plug-ins or game engines, the OSVR gives you all access to whatever you need.

The OSVR HDK is priced at $199 and is scheduled for release June of this year.

You can learn more about the OSVR by visiting their official site.
