In the late 2009, it all started as an idea or a small project between people who became friends via online Filipino (Pinoy) forums and community. This idea is to create our own geeky website that caters to Filipinos, especially Filipino Geeks — thus the name: FlipGeeks.
When FlipGeeks was put up on August 2010, FlipGeeks initially provided news about comics – mainly western comics with more focus on local indie comics. Ever since it’s conception FlipGeeks prides itself as being a gateway for local amateur comic creators and artists by promoting their works on our website, different social media channels and by partnering with events. Since then we have explored other “geek genres” : Gaming, Movies/TV, Anime, Manga, Cosplay and a lot more. The more geeky stuff we get into, the more geeky stuff we become experts in.
FlipGeeks or FG aims to be the number one online resource in the Philippines in providing news, updates on the geek genre (toys, movies, comics, etc) and pop culture.
WHAT DO WE DO?
Though some people may be surprised, a lot of Filipinos are enthusiasts of this geek genres. Because of this, we provide relevant news and updates regarding pop culture internationally and locally.
Ever since FlipGeeks started, it has been our advocacy to help uplift the comics industry. And we do this by helping out local indie creators by promoting their stuff and sharing with them opportunities. Aside from the usual news and info that we post on the site, we also do reviews for : comics, manga, anime, the latest movies, dvds, tv shows and more.
We always want to have fun. We provide our audience with creative content that they can enjoy, and give back to our readers by initiating giveaways in which they can win cool prizes.
Flipgeeks provide information and details regarding events. In addition, the team does event coverage, promotion during pre-event and post-event, and when there’s an oppurtunity we do on-site activities that include booth gimmicks and ambushing con-goers to take a pic with our HUGE fansign!
FlipGeeks aim to unite Filipinos who share the same interest and love for arts, pop culture and the different geek genres. We target local visitors, and almost 80-90% of our views come from the Philippines. Our audience consists of comics readers, artists/creators, cosplayers, game enthusiasts, movie goers, etc. We consider our audience as one of us and part of our community, and we treat them as friends.
