Remake Of A Remake
If this happens to be the first time that you’ve heard of The Magnificent 7, let me fill you in on the film’s brief history. The Magnificent 7 is actually a remake of the 60’s movie of the same name which also happens to be a remake of another classic, Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai. I think this is one of the first movies wherein movie in the East was adapted in the West.
The Wild West Is Back!
When was the last time that we ever truly had a good old western movie? I don’t think we’ve ever seen one in recent years. These past few months and years, most of the films shown in cinemas are superhero/comic book movies (not that it’s a bad thing) and The Magnificent 7 is a fresh break in the cinemas.
The Magnificent 7 brings back what the wild west was about. Desert, check! Horses, check! Indians, check! Cowboys, check! Of courses, the Wild West wouldn’t be complete without the gun-slinging action. In the Wild West, cowboys don’t aim, people just drop dead!
If you’re looking for a classic action movie with guns and explosions, The Magnificent 7 has lots of it! Also, the wild west wouldn’t be complete without the Marlboro theme! Yes, the Magnificent 7 has the Marlboro theme.
The Stars Shine Bright In The West
The Magnificent 7 has an ensemble cast with Denzel Washington and Chris Pratt on the lead. Joining the merry band of cowboys are Ethan Hawke, Byung-Hun Lee, Vincent D’Onofrio, Martin Sensmeier and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo. The actors brought their unique and distinct personalities, which made The Magnificent 7 an entertaining movie to watch. The cast is one of the reasons why you’d get to love this movie.
Denzel was being his usual awesome self, Pratt was Star-Lord in the west, Byung-Hun Lee was a knife wielding Storm Shadow in the desert, Vincent D’Onofrio was a religious cowboy Kingpin and Ethan Hawke is still alive (He was actually great in this movie) ! Kidding aside, the cast of The Magnificent 7 has great on-screen chemistry.
When The Dust Settles…
The Magnificent 7 brings you along for a wild 2 hour ride. The pace was just right, the movie doesn’t feel long and it has the right amount of action and drama to keep you entertained. Antoine Fuqua‘s adaptation of The Magnificent Seven was on point. It captures the essence of the source material however, it’s disappointing that the 2016 version did not offer anything new. In spite of this, The Magnificent 7 because of it’s delightful cast is still an enjoyable weekend movie.
Again, we would like to thank Warner Bros Pictures for the movie invite.
Catch The Magnificent Seven in theaters beginning September 21, 2016.
